The Iowa Council of Foundations (ICoF), a statewide membership association of grantmaking foundations, has announced its 2013-2014 board of directors and officers.
Jerry Mathiasen, senior vice president of the Iowa West Foundation in Council Bluffs, was elected chair and Suzanne Heckenlaible, executive director of Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation in Johnston, was elected vice-chair. Elected Secretary was Dennis Nissen, Iowa Foundations Director with the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa (affiliated with the Omaha Community Foundation). Leah Rodenberg, program manager of the Alliant Energy Foundation in Cedar Rapids, was re-elected treasurer. The board also welcomed Brad Little, president and CEO of the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation, as a new board member.
Additional board members include: Julie Gosselink, president, CEO, and chair of the Claude and Dolly Ahrens Foundation in Grinnell; Susan Skora, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend in Bettendorf; and Stacy Van Gorp, executive director of the R.J. McElroy Trust in Waterloo.
“We are currently celebrating the 10 year anniversary of our leadership in the creation of the Endow Iowa Tax Credit program and the County Endowment Fund program,” said Mathiasen. “I’m honored to be chair of this dedicated statewide network, which has such a positive impact on the quality of life in Iowa.”
The ICoF was founded in 1998 by representatives from Iowa foundations and corporate giving programs to guide grant makers in the best practices of charitable giving. Members are a diverse mix of Iowa community foundations, private foundations, family foundations, corporate foundations, and other giving programs. ICoF members represent over $1.7 billion in assets and distribute more than $120 million in grants each year to support local nonprofits and causes. Designated as the state’s Lead Philanthropic Entity, the ICoF manages a variety of programs and projects on behalf of Iowa’s community based foundations through a network of 60 leading foundations and 130 other grant makers.
