The City of Ottumwa and the Ottumwa Legacy Foundation are inviting citizens to attend a public input meeting on Monday, October 28th from 5-7 pm at the Bridge View Center. Refreshments will be provided.
The Riverfront Project, which focuses on the north side of the river in the downtown area, includes elements of riverfront housing, intermodal transportation improvements, private investment and a waterfront ‘Electric Park’. Participants will learn about the proposed ‘Electric Park’ concept and provide feedback about initial features, activities, programming and concepts that will ultimately be used to shape the master plan.
The riverfront has been identified as an Ottumwa asset yet to be fully developed that holds the potential to drive the revitalization of the city through economic development, tourism and an increased tax base while simultaneously providing opportunities for people to congregate, recreate and conduct and enjoy life.
The City will be submitting a BUILD grant application in 2020 to assist in funding the project. “Other communities have recognized the importance of their riverfront and how it can be an economic driver for their community”, stated Mayor Tom Lazio. “We have seen the successes of communities like Dubuque and Burlington (who was awarded $17 million for their riverfront project just last year) – now it is Ottumwa’s turn.”
Information about the Riverfront Project can be found on the www.ottumwariverfront.org website.
