Cardinal Senior Grant Pedersen joined the Legacy Youth Alliance as a high school freshman. “This year was my 4th year on the Alliance, and I had a great time. My favorite memories were the site visits around the county (particularly) the WhatsoeverYouDo shelter and the food bank in Ottumwa,” he stated as he reflected on his participation.
Pedersen will be stepping off the Alliance a semester early, but for a good reason. “Each year, the IowaSenate and the Iowa House of Representatives employ ambitious high school juniors and seniors of high academic standing to serve as Pages for the legislative session,” according to the Iowa Legislative Page Program.
Grant will serve as a Legislative Page from January through May 2022. “I’m most looking forward to the idea of being able to work in such an important place- the capitol building. No one in my knowledge has done this program in recent history from my school (Cardinal), so the idea of being the first one to accomplish something like this is very exciting,” Grant said. “I’m also excited about the opportunity of living in Des Moines and being able to see and do things that we may not have in the Ottumwa area.”
Pedersen plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to study Pre-Law. “Since government and law are so tightly intertwined, this opportunity should really open up my ideas to my career path and provide me with a number of great opportunities in that sector,” he stated.
Congratulations, Grant!
