The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) has successfully debuted their Spanish Initiative project, thanks in part to a grant of $10,000 from the Robert F. McCune Endowment, a fund of the Legacy Foundation.
“We were excited to see this money used for cancer education. It was even more exciting to see this be translated, as around 14% of the population in the Ottumwa area speak Spanish,” said Kelly Genners, CEO/President of Legacy Foundation. The Robert F. McCune Endowment commitment to promoting education and health equity has allowed the NOCC to extend its reach and provide vital resources to a broader audience.
The awarded grant has facilitated the translation of educational materials, including the Animated Video Guide: Usted y el cáncer de ovario, which serves as a comprehensive resource covering important aspects of ovarian cancer. This animated video guide, now available at www.ustedycancerdeovario.com, offers Spanish-speaking individuals a user-friendly and informative platform to learn about ovarian cancer, its symptoms, risk management, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment options.
In addition to the Animated Video Guide, the NOCC has also translated various educational materials into Spanish. These resources, including signs and symptoms cards, newly diagnosed booklets and guides, caregiver brochures, and more, are now accessible to Spanish-speaking individuals through the NOCC’s website under the Programs and Resources section at www.ovarian.org/find-support/programs-and-resources-educational-materials/.
The NOCC recognizes the importance of language-specific education and its impact on health outcomes. They have taken significant steps toward reducing health disparities and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their language or cultural background, have access to vital ovarian cancer resources.
