Food Bank of Iowa announced today a $15,000 donation from the Legacy Foundation to assist with feeding food insecure Iowans in the Ottumwa area during the coronavirus pandemic, which has created more populations in need of additional support during this crisis.

“We have partnered with the Food Bank many times over the past 10 years,” stated Kelly Genners, vp of programs for the Legacy Foundation.  “Now more than ever, we are grateful to have this incredible resource in our community.”

The Legacy Foundation’s gift has been designated to go directly to COVID-19 relief efforts. According to Food Bank of Iowa, for every $1 the nonprofit receives, it can feed up to four people. With this donation, about 60,000 meals will be provided to food insecure Iowans in the Ottumwa area.

“We are so grateful for the generous support from the Ottumwa Regional Legacy Foundation,” said Michelle Book, president and CEO of Food Bank of Iowa. “The team in our Ottumwa distribution center works hard to get food into the hands of those in need every day. Support like this helps us secure the resources required to meet the rapidly changing need in the Ottumwa area.”
