The Legacy Youth Alliance awarded six grants totaling $10,000 in their Spring 2022 grant cycle. Legacy Youth Alliance members live in Wapello County and attend Cardinal, EBF, Pekin, and Ottumwa High Schools. All grant proposals submitted to the Legacy Youth Alliance must be for a youth-led project or a youth-serving program. Funding priorities of the Legacy Youth Alliance are impactful projects that address literacy, reading proficiency, post-secondary education, physical, mental, or social wellness. The organizations and projects funded are:
- American Home Finding Association for their Achieving Maximum Potential (AMP) program serving youth ages 13-23 who are in the foster care system
- Cardinal Visions Alternative School for a washer and dryer to teach independence, life skills, and reduce adverse experiences due to hygiene
- Cardinal Youth Football League for new helmets to replace old inventory
- Eddyville Public Library for the 2022 Summer Reading Program
- Ottumwa Pro Balloon Races for fire extinguishers that will be given to children going through the Fire Safety Trailer at the event
- Wapello County 4-H Exposition, Inc. for STEM Model Rocket Kits for Clover Kids
