The Legacy Foundation is pleased to announce awards totaling $10,000 to 6 local organizations. Since the first grant cycle in 2017, the Legacy Youth Alliance has awarded $146,743 to youth-led projects and youth-serving organizations in Wapello County.
The most recent projects to receive LYA grants are:
• American Home Finding Association for new Norix furniture for the Agency Emergency Youth Shelter.
• Cardinal Community School District for football equipment for the Lil’ Comets Football program.
• OCSD Gateway High School for items in their mental health room.
• OCSD Gateway High School for End-of-Year Meal Kits for the OCSD school pantry.
• River Hills Community Health Center for Healing Hearts: Therapeutic Groups for kids and youth in the community.
• YMCA of Ottumwa for scholarships to their Water Wise Swim program.
The Legacy Youth Alliance has two grant cycles each calendar year and awards up to $20,000 a year. The next online application cycle opens on September 1, 2025. Their current funding priorities include, but are not limited to mental and physical health and food insecurity
